Norwegian actor Renate Reinsve stole the show at 2025’s Cannes Film Festival, continuing her award-winning collaboration with director Joachim Trier in Sentimental Value, his follow-up to his lauded The Worst Person In The World. Reinsve is also known for her collaboration with the artists at Louis Vuitton, wearing custom creations from artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière throughout her recent press tour, as well as on the red carpet.
At Saturday’s 2025 Academy Museum Gala, Renate Reinsve continued that streak, wearing a shimmering gown from the fashion house that evoked the sleek, androgynous look of the 1920s. Here she shares a bit on her inspiration, as well as how her past roles inform her style.

Can you tell me about your look tonight? What drew you to it?
What drew me to this look was the sleek lines, the masculine and the feminine together. I love strong lines in outfits.
Of your past characters, whose closet would you steal?
I think Ingrid from A Different Man had some great suits I would loved to steal, but I ended up getting a lot of Julie’s wardrobe from The Worst Person In The World, still have those.

What film has most informed your sense of style?
I think my style has developed a lot working with [costume designer] Karla Welch and Louis Vuitton. I grew up seeing a mix of style from Twin Peaks and MTV, I think that combo has stuck with me.
What do you like to do in L.A. in your free time?
I love the nature around L.A., and always trying to find good coffee. Also you have the sun here, trying to get some of that before going back to Oslo in winter.
