The anime series is based on CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 video game which adapts the 1988 tabletop role-playing game Cyberpunk 2020). The game was released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in November 2020 and on Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 in February 2022.
