Clay Matthews, a legendary NFL linebacker, has joined Caesars Entertainment for a special advertising campaign titled “We’ve Had Some Work Done,” in which he is humorously transformed into a clay person himself, and not least as a nod to his talent. His NFL moniker is “The Claymaker.”

The Claymaker Returns for Cinema-Inspired Makeover

Yet, there is no AI involved in Matthews’ transformation, with the company leaning heavily on movie practices, including prosthetics and makeup, giving the campaign even more raw authenticity and a higher value point.

“Matthews proudly embraces a dramatically enhanced new look inspired by today’s makeover and ‘looksmaxxing’ trends while showcasing a Caesars Sportsbook app that has gone through a transformation of its own,” the company wrote, commenting on Matthews’ appearance.

Matthews also reportedly took positively to the new Caesars campaign, arguing that he was “all in” as soon as he heard about the whole thing. And what is the connection to Caesars?

The idea is to showcase, through Matthews altered looks, that the app itself has had a lot of work done on it, making for a better overall experience on the occasion of the NFL season, which got underway on Wednesday, September 9

Caesars Digital President Eric Hession also welcomed the opportunity to use this clever marketing trick, drawing heavily on Matthews’ status in the NFL and the newfound visual identity to strike home with fans, followers, and would-be bettors.

“We’ve spent the last several years making significant investments in the overall Caesars Sportsbook app experience. A lot of bettors may remember an earlier version of the app. Football season felt like the perfect opportunity to showcase the quality of the experience today and the innovations we’ve introduced for sports fans,” Hession said.

With the Caesars Sportsbook app rolling out to millions of bettors nationwide just as the NFL season kicks off, Matthews’ clay-faced cameo is shaping up to be one of the more memorable and literal sports betting glow-ups of the year.

The app now features Injury Protection and the Squad Builder, offering players new ways to earn Bonus Bets and Profit Boosts, but also enjoy a larger selection of NFL betting markets.
