Bruce Willis’ daughter shares health update on Hollywood icon amid dementia diagnosis
Bruce Willis’s daughter Rumer has shared that her father is “doing great” amid his ongoing health challenges and concerns about the Los Angeles wildfires.
The 36-year-old actress provided a candid update on the Hollywood star’s condition in a ne interview this week.
“He’s doing great. I think, obviously as many people in California, the thing we’re all kind of the most scared, dealing with is just fires and wanting to make sure everything is okay,” she explained.
Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women, she emphasised how the family has united during these challenging times, adding: “My family, we’re all so close, I think what’s so beautiful is the way that we rally around each other, [it’s] so lovely, because we really are a unit.”
Bruce Willis initially stepped away from acting in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, a neurological disorder affecting communication abilities.
His condition has since progressed to frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a rare and progressive brain disorder that impacts the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain.
The condition causes behavioural changes and communication difficulties, as the actor’s family continues to support him through his health journey.
A recent source told Life and Style magazine that Willis is “not the same anymore,” though his “spirit is still there.”
“He’s being brave, but life is also scary for him at times,” the source added, noting that the public doesn’t see the more challenging aspects of his illness.
Rumer Willis, who has a 21-month-old daughter Louetta with former partner Derek Richard Thomas, spoke about how motherhood has enhanced her sense of self.
“I feel like I am my most grounded, intuitive, connected self,” she shared on Loose Women.
The actress explained how parenting has improved her decision-making abilities.
“What I am thinking about when it comes to my daughter, I noticed sometimes in other decisions in my life, I can be a little anxious or indecisive or not know what to do,” she said.
She added: “I find if I really listen to myself when it’s about her, I feel really grounded and quiet – and I’m able to make really definitive decisions.”
During the interview, Rumer expressed gratitude for the strong family foundation her parents created, even after their separation.
“I think the thing I’m most grateful for is that even when they split up, they created such a beautiful foundation of prioritising my sisters and I, that I never felt like I had to choose,” she reflected.
The actress emphasised the enduring nature of their family bond, stating: “We were a family, and we still are very much a family no matter what.”
