After ‘Laila Majnu’, Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali reunite for ‘Heer Ranjha’

Director Sajid Ali and writer-producer Imtiaz Ali have reunited for their next romantic film Heer Ranjha, following their earlier collaboration on Laila Majnu (2018).

The makers announced the film on Saturday, February 14, with a concept teaser, introducing it as the second chapter in the Laila Majnu franchise. The teaser uses footage from the 2018 film and is billed as “the next love legend from the world of Laila Majnu.”

Laila Majnu, which featured Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri, did not perform strongly at the box office upon its release but went on to gain a steady following over the years, eventually becoming a fan favourite.

Heer Ranjha is written and presented by Imtiaz Ali and directed by Sajid Ali, who had made his directorial debut with the 2018 romantic tragedy. Sajid Ali has since directed the OTT series Dr Arora and Wo Bhi Din The.

The film is jointly produced by Ektaa R Kapoor, Shobhaa Kapoor and Preety Ali. The lead cast is yet to be officially announced, and filming is expected to begin soon.

Meanwhile, Imtiaz Ali also has another theatrical release lined up this year. The yet-untitled film starring Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina and Sharvari is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
