Hip-Hop has equally thrived on legendary quarrels and strong relationships. Latto recently revealed whether she would ever be willing to make peace with Nicki Minaj, with whom she feuded on X a few years ago.
The 26-year-old rapper appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this past weekend, and, for those unfamiliar with the show, the popular host never shies away from the tough or messy topics. He asked a question submitted by an X user, which focused on her recently letting bygones be bygones with Ice Spice. The fan was curious if the same could ever happen with the Pink Friday artist.
The Atlanta rapper said her team and Spice’s team helped liaise their reconciliation, and she was admittedly apprehensive before complying. As for Minaj, she kept it short and sweet. “Yeah, I’m open to rekindling with anybody,” she said. Cohen then referenced Gizelle Bryant, who was also a guest on that episode alongside Latto, and called Nicki her friend. “We love Nicki, we do,” Bryant said. “I did too,” the “Brokey” artist said with a smile. Their tension boiled over in October 2022 when Minaj was frustrated about “Super Freaky Girl” not being considered for any rap categories at the Grammys. She ranted on X about feeling slighted and specifically targeted Latto’s hit single “Big Energy,” writing, “If [Super Freaky Girl] has [to be] moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll.”
The Sugar Honey Iced Tea artist attempted to address the matter privately, but Minaj took it to the timeline. Nicki called the Grammy nominee a “Karen” and “scratch off,” and pointed out how she mentioned her in several interviews, but wasn’t standing up for her being done wrong by the Grammys. Latto attempted to peacefully explain herself, but ultimately revealed why she did not feel inclined to defend Minaj.
“I’ve ignored countless subtweets since March and instead addressed u in the dm,” she wrote. “You’re asking why I didn’t speak up in ur defense… it’s the same answer I gave u when u asked why I didn’t congratulate you. Ur literally older than my mom tryna be a bully @NICKIMINAJ.” Eventually, things got very personal between the two, with The Rap Game taking shots at Nicki’s family and marriage to husband, Kenneth Petty. See the contentious posts below.
I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll. I’d actually LUV 2 c a more street record win- male OR female! IJS rightIsRight ?
