Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte and Prince George ‘so happy’ to step out with Kate after hard year

Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte and Prince George looked “so happy” alongside their mother Princess Kate during the Christmas Carol Service at Westminster Abbey according to an attendee of the event.

The Princess of Wales welcomed 1,600 guests to Westminster Abbey on Friday for her fourth annual Together at Christmas concert, celebrating those who support their communities across the UK.

The festive gathering brought together individuals who have made significant contributions to their local areas, recognising grassroots efforts that often go unnoticed.

The concert, held in the historic abbey, went beyond traditional carol singing to honour those who dedicate their time to helping others.

“It was like saying, ‘We do acknowledge you,'” said Jenny Powell, a community worker from Abergavenny in South Wales, who was among the invited guests.

Mrs Powell’s community initiative, The Gathering, was established after the COVID pandemic to support people with disabilities in her Welsh town.

The group offers craft-making, sensory spaces, cooking activities and bingo sessions, creating an environment where “everyone understands everyone else,” according to Powell.

Her dedication to community service made her a perfect representative of the grassroots efforts the royal concert aimed to celebrate.

“These things that I’ve been doing have impacted the lives of people I’ve been supporting, but knowing that the Royal Family is aware of these little things is lovely,” Powell told PEOPLE.

“I do things for my community because I like doing it and I never expected to be invited,” she added.

The event featured thoughtful touches, including a “kindness tree” near the entrance where guests could write and hang personal messages.

Princess Catherine placed a heartfelt letter on each seat, focusing on love and kindness, which deeply moved attendees.

“It was a gorgeous letter,” Mrs Powell recalled. “It really showed her appreciation of what we’re all doing. It was quite touching and brought tears to my eyes.”

The Royal Family’s arrival brought further joy to the occasion, with Prince William and their children – George, Charlotte and Louis – joining Princess Kate.

Powell said: “They looked so happy together. It’s been a hard year, but she put that brave face on and she looked absolutely gorgeous.”

Steel drums played while mince pies were served, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The event drew notable attendees including Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, her sister Pippa, and brother James with his wife Alizée Thevenet.

Families of survivors from the Taylor Swift-themed dance class tragedy, where three children lost their lives in July, were also present.

The evening featured performances by singer Olivia Dean and readings by Prince William and actor Richard E. Grant.

Mrs Powell reflected on the significance of the recognition, saying: “I’m really grateful that they’re acknowledging what some people are doing in the community. It really meant something to have that opportunity to be part of that experience.”
