‘Complete chaos!’ Nutella lorry driver arrested after smuggling Syrian and Turkish migrants into UK as police swoop service station
A driver of a lorry filled with Nutella products has been arrested for allegedly smuggling Syrian and Turkish migrants into the UK.
Seven men were found perched on top of boxes of chocolate inside the white Scania lorry after Cambridgeshire Police were alerted to reports of “banging and shouting” coming from the van.
Arriving at Brampton Hut Services, where the lorry was parked, fire service officers then helped the migrants out of the truck.
They were checked over by ambulance crews before being transferred to immigration services.
The force said that four of the men were of Turkish nationality, while three were Syrian.
A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry into the UK. He has been bailed until next year.
It comes just weeks after police detained multiple illegal migrants after they escaped from a broken-down lorry on the M20.
A group of 11 suspected migrants was travelling in a lorry along the busy highway when the vehicle suddenly stopped at around 10am.

As a result of the chaos, a Peugeot crashed and was subsequently removed from the scene.
After the group was found along the hard shoulder, police placed the migrants in a Home Office immigration environment facility.
One witness described the incident as “complete chaos”, The Daily Mail has revealed.
They added: “I was driving and saw all these migrants running all over the place. It’s a miracle they didn’t die.
“How on earth did this happen? It was insane. Where did the lorry come from?”
In response to the incident, a Kent police spokesman said: “At around 10am on November 14, 2024, officers located 11 suspected migrants on the hard shoulder of the M20 near junction 4.
“They have all since been transferred to a Home Office immigration enforcement facility in Folkestone.
“It is reported the migrants had been travelling in a lorry and enquiries are ongoing to locate this vehicle.”
