Boxing legend blames himself after Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fiasco – ‘I feel responsible’

Boxing legend Sharron Briggs has blamed himself following Jake Paul’s recent victory over Mike Tyson.

Paul beat the 58-year-old via unanimous decision at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, with Tyson looking a shadow of the fighter he once was.

At the start of Paul’s career, the 27-year-old actually worked with Briggs.

The boxing legend also worked with Logan Paul, too, helping the two siblings learn all about the sport.

And Briggs has now admitted he ‘feels responsible’ after Tyson’s defeat, while also questioning why the heavyweight legend didn’t throw more punches.

Speaking to Fight Hype, he said: “I feel responsible because I feel like I created this monster.

“We developed what you see now with YouTube boxing. It’s crazy.

“I would have liked to have seen Mike Tyson throw more punches. I wonder why he wasn’t.

“He should have went crazy and got busy and took it to him.”

Tyson was always going to have his work cut out when it came to his bout with Paul.

While he was formidable during his prime years, it was a big ask returning to the ring at the age of 58 to duel a man half his age.

Tyson did look somewhat like his old self during the early stages of the contest, with the veteran displaying some of his iconic punching power.

Yet he was gassed out after two rounds and, in the end, crashed to defeat.

Tyson proceeded to call out Logan, saying he was open to fighting the 29-year-old despite his failure to beat his sibling.

However, Logan quickly said he would ‘kill’ Tyson if they met in the ring – with the YouTuber left stunned by the veteran’s remarks.

Writing on social media, Tyson then confirmed he was unlikely to fight again in the future.

He also thanked fans for their support, having had the majority on his side during the showdown with Paul earlier in the month.

“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won,” he said.

“I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time.

“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.

“To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for.

“Thank you.”

Paul, writing in response, said: “Love you Mike. It was an honour. You’re an inspiration to us all.”
