Plane carrying more than 300 passengers goes up in flames on runway at Tokyo airport
A Japan Airlines plane carrying more than 300 passengers caught fire on the runway at Tokyo Haneda airport as images show the jet engulfed in a huge flames.
Footage on broadcaster NHK shows flames pouring out windows of the aircraft and underneath it.
Japan Airlines has confirmed that all 379 passengers and crew on board have been evacuated.
Local TV has reported that the plane erupted into flames on the runway following a collision.
The airliner reportedly collided with a coastguard plane after landing at Hokkaido.
Videos appear to show passengers running away from the blaze as debris fell onto the tarmac.
The fire service were deployed to the scene and could be seen trying to extinguish the flames in footage online.
“We are currently assessing the extent of the damage,” the airline said, according to an NHK report.
The plane, Japan Airlines Flight 516, departed from New Chitose airport at 16.00 local time (07:00 GMT) and was scheduled to land at Haneda at 17.40.
