Johnnie Walker has launched its first-ever India-inspired limited-edition whisky, the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Festive Blend, marking a new milestone in the Scotch whisky brand’s nearly 200-year history.
Inspired by India’s culinary heritage and festive flavours, the blend combines Scotch whisky craftsmanship with flavours and aromas associated with Indian cuisine.
The limited-edition expression will be available in India, the UK, the US and Global Duty Free channels, among other markets. It has been crafted by Johnnie Walker Master Blender Emma Walker, who selected rare whiskies from the brand’s collection of more than 10 million casks.
1 in 10,000
According to the brand, only one in every 10,000 casks has the depth of flavour required for Johnnie Walker Blue Label. An even smaller selection was used to create the Festive Blend.
The flavour profile includes notes of cardamom, saffron, rosewater and citrus, balanced with honey, chocolate-dipped fruit, warm spices and a gentle hint of smoke. The blend draws inspiration from Indian chefs and their ability to balance bold spices with different flavours.
Walker said, “The art of blending lies in understanding the distinct character of individual whiskies and bringing them together to achieve balance, complexity and depth.”
Mumbai unveiling
The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Festive Blend was unveiled at an event at The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai on October 30. Actor Alia Bhatt, along with industry representatives and other notable personalities, attended the launch.
A key highlight of the evening was a projection on the Gateway of India, bringing the brand’s “Keep Walking” philosophy to life. The presentation celebrated India’s cultural heritage and its evolving identity.
The limited-edition packaging also draws inspiration from India’s festive ingredients, featuring colours and intricate patterns depicting different spices.
India’s whisky market
Commenting on the launch, Ruchira Jaitly, Chief Marketing Officer at Diageo India, said India is playing an increasingly important role in shaping the future of the whisky category, while consumers are seeking luxury experiences that are distinctive and culturally relevant.
She said: “The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Festive Blend brings these two worlds together – the exceptional craftsmanship and nearly 200-year legacy of Johnnie Walker, with inspiration drawn from India’s extraordinary flavour profiles.”
Jaitly added that the blend reflects the importance of the Indian market and the brand’s ambition to create globally recognised experiences that remain relevant to Indian consumers.
Johnnie Walker, owned by Diageo and distributed in India through its subsidiary United Spirits Limited, has a portfolio that includes Red Label, Black Label, Gold Label Reserve and Blue Label. The brand is available in more than 160 countries and sells over 22 million cases annually.
