NGX Hits New Peak at N164.97trn as All-Share Index Closes at All-Time High
The Nigerian Exchange closed stronger on October 29, 2026, setting two new records as investor appetite for industrial heavyweights lifted the market to its highest valuation ever.
The total market value of all listed equities rose to N164.97 trillion, the highest in the Exchange’s history. The previous peak of N164.91 trillion was recorded on October 27, before a mild pullback to N164.19 trillion in the last session.
The All-Share Index (ASI) also hit a fresh high, adding 1,200.24 points (0.47%) to finish at 254,083.02 points, compared to 252,882.78 points at the previous close. The rally added about N779.31 billion to investors’ wealth in one day.
Trading was more active in terms of volume. Investors exchanged 654.14 million shares, a 61.88% jump from 404.08 million shares traded previously, though the number of deals fell 8.16% to 35,789 from 38,970.
eTranzact led the gainers’ chart with a 10% rise to N17.60, followed by Sovereign Trust Insurance which appreciated by 9.60% to N2.17. FTG Insurance, McNichols and Zichis also closed among the top advancers with gains of 9.38%, 9.18% and 8.24% respectively.
On the downside, First HoldCo shed 10% to N125.55, topping the losers’ list. Livestock Feeds, Tantalizer, C&I Leasing and Regal Insurance also closed lower.
The day’s rally was largely driven by Dangote Cement, the most capitalised stock on the Exchange at N23.96 trillion. The cement maker gained N78.10 or 5.82% to close at N1,420.00, lifting the Industrial Index by 3.41% to 12,199.47 points. The performance of mid-cap gainers like eTranzact and Sovereign Trust provided additional support.
That strength helped the market absorb sell-offs in banking stocks. First HoldCo, despite trading a huge 343.8 million shares, dragged the Banking Index down by 2.10% to 2,461.21 points. Other lenders such as UBA and GTCO also posted marginal losses.
Sectoral performance was mixed. The Premium Index rose 1.01% to 33,374.25 points, while the Lotus Islamic Index gained 1.20% to 24,087.12 points and the Growth Index improved by 0.98% to 27,158.78 points. Insurance stocks were also up 0.75%.
In contrast, the Corporate Governance Index declined 1.46% to 7,155.12 points. Consumer Goods slipped 0.06% to 4,016.66 points, while Oil and Gas inched up 0.05% to 6,089.25 points, showing largely muted activity outside industrials.
