Baze University Participates in National Blockchain Education Programme Review and Launch
Baze University participated in the curriculum review and official launch of the National Blockchain Education Programme at the National Assembly, Abuja, on 13 and 14 October 2026.
The University was represented by its Director of IT, Dr Alhassan Abdulmutallib, alongside officials from its Legal Department. Their participation reflected the institution’s commitment to technological innovation, legal compliance and data protection in the development and adoption of emerging technologies.
The two-day engagement was convened by the Blockchain Adoption Initiative in collaboration with Baze University, the African University of Science and Technology, and Nile University of Nigeria. It brought together representatives of academia, industry and regulatory institutions to advance blockchain education, responsible innovation and digital inclusion in Nigeria.
The first day featured a comprehensive review of the proposed curriculum, with discussions focusing on practical blockchain skills, cybersecurity, data protection, regulatory compliance and entrepreneurship. Participants examined learning outcomes, hands-on training and the need to align course content with Nigeria’s economic and technological priorities.

Speaking at the engagement, the Chairman of the House Committee on Delegated Legislation, Hon. Olufemi Richard Bamisile, highlighted the wide-ranging applications of blockchain technology beyond cryptocurrency, including banking, agriculture and digital identity management. He stressed the need to equip Nigerians with practical digital skills through a curriculum that integrates hands-on training, cybersecurity education and effective regulation.
Bamisile also commended the Blockchain Adoption Initiative and the three collaborating universities for advancing the programme. He urged stakeholders to ensure that it delivers measurable outcomes in skills development, research, entrepreneurship and employment, while equipping young Nigerians to become innovators, entrepreneurs and problem-solvers.
He further emphasised the importance of public education on blockchain infrastructure, its underlying technology and potential applications, noting that a well-informed population, supported by a skilled workforce and appropriate safeguards for cybersecurity and data protection, would strengthen the industry and promote responsible adoption.
The programme was officially launched on the second day, with speakers reiterating the importance of combining technical expertise with an understanding of the ethical, legal and regulatory responsibilities associated with emerging technologies.

Baze University’s participation reinforces its commitment to emerging technology education and strategic partnerships that bridge academic learning and industry needs while promoting responsible innovation and preparing learners for opportunities in Nigeria’s evolving digital economy.
