“I’m excited about pants,” Michelle Ochs announced in her midtown showroom. For the last few seasons, the Hervé Léger creative director has been slowly nudging the brand’s customer out of their comfort zone, and this season she’s gone all in on—yes—bandage pants.
It’s unlikely that anybody goes to Hervé Léger looking for anything besides the brand’s array of technicolor body-conscious bandage dresses, but Ochs is hoping they’ll stick around to see what else the brand can offer. “A bandage just can feel very singular sometimes,” she said. “People come back for the things that they remember you for, but you have to show them different ways.”
It seems as though her attempts to stoke millennial nostalgia and spark Gen Z interest have been successful. Ochs was most passionate about the array of date-night tops and a pair of capris, fashioned in the brand’s signature body-snatching bandage. “[We are offering] things that she can live in and think beyond just the cocktail moment or the occasion moment,” Ochs said. “It’s about wardrobing and working towards that.”
Expanding into separates doesn’t just allow Hervé Léger to break out of the occasionwear silo. “Opening up the categories allowed us to open up price points,” Ochs said. “So if someone wanted to come back to us for a mini dress, they could try a top, try a skirt.”
But for those in the market for a tried-and-true Hervé Léger bandage dress, fear not: there were plenty to go around, from the strappy electric violet midi to a metallic ice-blue mini.
