Rams’ Davis Allen carted off after brutal hit against 49ers

The Los Angeles Rams already looked like a team fighting its body clock Thursday night. Then they watched one of their tight ends disappear down the tunnel on a cart.

Davis Allen was injured late in the third quarter of the Rams’ season opener against the San Francisco 49ers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after hauling in a 13-yard completion from Matthew Stafford for a first down.

Allen, the first of the Rams’ five tight ends to record a catch, was hit hard by 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw along the sideline and immediately headed into the blue medical tent behind the Los Angeles bench.

He emerged moments later, but instead of returning to the field, Allen climbed onto a cart and was taken back to the Rams locker room with a possible concussion. The Rams announced Allen was questionable to return.

The injury added another problem to an increasingly uncomfortable night for Los Angeles, which arrived in Australia barely 24 hours before kickoff and looked sluggish for stretches against its NFC West rival.

Safety Kam Curl was also listed as questionable to return after suffering an ankle injury, leaving the Rams suddenly battered as they tried to shake off the jet lag — and the 49ers.
