Tiger Woods ranked ‘most overrated’ golfer at Masters in controversial poll just ahead of Rory McIlroy
Tiger Woods has sensationally finished top in a survey from over 2,000 people who consider him the ‘most overrated golfer’ at this year’s Masters.
Woods is one of the most recognisable golfers in the world given his domination of the sport at his peak.
He pulled off one of the most remarkable comeback stories of all time when he won the Masters for a fifth time in 2019.
But it’s been a tough few years for the American sports icon since then as he’s battled with ongoing physical issues after being involved in a horrific car crash in February 2021.
The 48-year-old is back at Augusta this week in what is just the second tournament he’s entered in 2024.
Despite admitting that he feels pain every day and getting his body ready to compete is a daily struggle, Woods remains confident about his chances of competing for another green jacket.
The 15-time major champion is a huge draw at every event he plays and attracts plenty of coverage.
However, a controversial poll has indicated that Woods is seen as the ‘most overrated golfer’ in this year’s Masters field.
Over 2000 ‘golf enthusiasts’ were surveyed by SportsHandle with 18 per cent of them voting Woods as the most overrated player.
That was a huge 13 per cent more than Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson, both of whom shared 5 per cent of the vote.
But second on the list was 12 per cent of people who opted to vote for ‘I do not know’.
More female golf fans (21 per cent) felt Woods was overrated compared to male fans (16 per cent).
There wasn’t much disparity between age groups either with 17 per cent of the 208 18-24 year olds voting for Woods while 15 per cent of the 614 people aged 55 and over also opted for the American sports icon.
McIlroy was not seen as overrated by the younger demographic, but those aged between 45 and 54 had him very much second in the list.
Woods also came out on top in the survey for who golf fans considered to be ‘the most annoying golfer’ in this year’s Masters.
