The approval clears the way for the demolition of existing buildings and construction of replacement teaching accommodation and sports facilities on the Castlegate Drive site.
Bowmer + Kirkland is lined up to deliver the project, thought to be worth over £40m, which will provide a modern campus for 1,440 pupils and 135 full-time staff.
The existing school will remain operational while the new facilities are built alongside.
The redevelopment has three main elements: a new main teaching building, a dedicated sports block and the repositioning of the existing all-weather pitch to the north of the new campus.
Extensive sports facilities across the site will either be retained or replaced as part of the overhaul, which aims to deliver a modern secondary school while minimising disruption to pupils during construction.
