JUNE 3–Angered that a fellow cop used the office’s microwave to heat up fish, a detective allegedly drew his weapon and pointed it at the odor-
producing officer, according to an arrest warrant.
Investigators say that Michael DeBiase, 46, was at police headquarters in Myrtle Beach on Saturday when he got into a dispute with a patrolman whose name is redacted from the warrant.
DeBiase, pictured at right, “confronted” the patrolman “about warming up fish in the microwave, causing an odor in the office. During the confrontation, Detective DeBiase drew and pointed his department-issued handgun” at the other officer.
DeBiase was arrested yesterday for allegedly pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, a felony. He was booked into the Horry County jail, from which he was later released without bail.
Court records do not indicate what kind of fish was being microwaved (which itself could be considered criminal behavior).
DeBiase was placed on administrative leave following the May 30 incident. The subsequent internal investigation “identified several policy violations” that resulted in his termination, according to a Myrtle Beach Police Department statement. (1 page)
