Model Anok Yai is responding after rumors spread online about an alleged bathroom mishap at the Met Gala.
You may have recently seen Anok go viral for her appearance at this year’s gala, where her dramatic hair and makeup had people saying that she looked like a literal statue.
Well, two years ago, she also attended the Met, wearing an ombre blue jumpsuit made with 98,000 Swarovski crystals and matching sparkling makeup.
Why are we talking about this look from years ago, you ask? Well, it started after the Washington Post published a story about how stars pee at the Met Gala while wearing elaborate outfits. It explained that extravagant outfits and custom looks can create fashion emergencies “requiring the help of assistants, seamstresses and even fellow celebs.”
According to the article, some celebs avoid accidents by having assistants help them undress and redress, using hidden “trap doors” built into outfits, or even avoiding drinking anything during the event.
But apparently, accidents still happen.
Stylist Mickey Freeman told the Post about one mishap involving a client who he said made “stunning entrance in an elaborate couture sheer mesh jumpsuit, intricately embroidered and adorned with a stunning array of hand-stitched Swarovski crystals and pearls, covering her from neck to toe.”
According to Mickey, the piece was originally meant to be held together by a zipper, but after it got stuck while the client was getting dressed, they were sewn into the outfit instead.
Later at the dinner, the client allegedly got “swept up in the grandeur and excitement,” started drinking, forgot about the zipper, and “ended up ripping the dress because “inevitably, her bladder decided to remind her.”
Although Mickey didn’t name the client, the outlet noted that the outfit description seemed similar to Anok’s crystal outfit.
But Anok was quick to deny that the story was about her.
Posting on her Instagram Story, Anok wrote, “I usually stay quiet and keep to myself but … HOW DARE YOU MISALIGN MY CHARACTER AND IMPLY THAT I RIPPED MY OUTFIT AND PEED ON MYSELF DURING THE MET GALA OF 2024!”
She then added, “FACT CHECK NEXT TIME! ARE YOU CRAZY?!”
Anok also tagged the Post and the story writer while sharing a screenshot of the section in question.
“If you find any photos of my outfit ripped or urine dripping down my leg send it to me,” she said over a photo of herself at the event.
Readers thought it was an “awful” thing to report about someone.
“Glad she’s standing up for herself, what an insane thing to make up about someone,” one Reddit user wrote, while another agreed, it was a “weird thing to report on.”
Yeah, it’s easy to see why she was upset. LMK what you think below.
