Sorry, Alex Consani — not everybody was down to “put on a heel” at the 2026 Met Gala! In fact some guests went the exact opposite route, taking a leaf out of Matthieu Blazy’s sole-less, semi-barefoot shoes from Chanel’s Resort 2027 show in Biarritz and opted for a barely-there, toe cleavage-friendly sandal.
There may not have been time for anyone to get their hands on a pair of those conversation-starting half-soled Chanels to strap on for the Met Gala, but, still, there were plenty of Grecian goddess-esque sandals gracing the Met steps, leaning into this year’s emphasis on the body. Elizabeth Denicki wore flat-soled, open-toed sandals, and Rihanna’s feet were strapped in via a single strap over her big toes. A small trendlet we noticed was clear-strapped shoes that gave the illusion of bare feet, and we even clocked a couple of actually soles-to-ground bare feet, thanks to Doechii.
Take a peep at all of the freakiest footwear from the 2026 Met Gala.
