The North Carolina Education Lottery has reported that a $2-million prize has been won by a ticket bought at a Dover gas station, urging residents – and out-of-state visitors – to make sure that they check their recent purchase.
The ticket secured the largest Powerball prize from the Monday drawing, and the winner, whoever they may be, secured the $3 Power Play ticket from JD Gas & Grocery on NC 55 in Dover, North Carolina.
The player managed to match the main five numbers, securing the $1 million put, and doubling that with the 2X multiplier, but missed the grand prize. The odds of matching the five numbers alone are pretty slim – 1 in 11.6 million, the lottery clarified in a press release.
The odds of winning the grand prize are actually even slimmer – 1 in 292 million, with a jackpot drawing coming up later today – Wednesday, March 18 – and the value of the prize set at $101 million. The jackpot’s cash value is estimated at $46 million.
