Iran-Israel-US war LIVE Updates: President Donald Trump described US operations against Iran as a “short-term excursion,” telling Republican House members that the campaign has quickly neutralised the country’s military threats. He said, “We took a little excursion because we felt we had to do that to get rid of some people. It is going to be a short term excursion.”
He added that the operation has already destroyed Iran’s Navy, sunk 46 ships, and dismantled its drone, missile, and nuclear capabilities.
The Israeli Air Force said it carried out another wave of strikes targeting dozens of infrastructures of what it called the Iranian regime across several areas in Iran.
It said the strikes included a central headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards responsible for launching unmanned aerial vehicles toward Israel and storing additional launch-ready drones, adding that efforts to damage the regime’s firing and defense capabilities and ballistic missile production infrastructure are continuing.
Earlier, Iran has appointed Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the country’s new supreme leader amid escalating hostilities involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
The decision follows the death of the 86-year-old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an Israeli airstrike that targeted the supreme leader’s offices at the start of the conflict.
US President Donald Trump had earlier criticised the possibility of Mojtaba assuming leadership. “They are wasting their time. Khamenei’s son is a lightweight. I have to be involved in the appointment, he said, as per Axios.
“Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me. We want someone that will bring harmony and peace to Iran,” he added.
As tensions continue to rise across West Asia, the United States is preparing precautionary measures in the region.
The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh said that on March 8, the Department of State ordered non-emergency US government employees and US government employee family members to leave Saudi Arabia due to safety risks.
