Following the shooting, a police force arrived at the scene, where authorities noted that the window panes of Oberoi’s Thar, along with another nearby vehicle, had been shattered.
Police suggested that the assailants likely conducted a recce of Oberoi’s daily movements before carrying out the attack and fleeing the area. Police are currently scanning CCTV footage from the area to trace the assailants.
According to a doctor at the private hospital where Oberoi was taken, he was brought in around 8:10 am. “He was unconscious, and his blood pressure was unrecordable. Eight to nine rounds were fired at him, and one of the bullets pierced through his chest,” the doctor was quoted as saying by PTI.

The incident has triggered criticism from opposition leaders, who cite the incident as evidence of a total breakdown in Punjab. Partap Singh Bajwa, Leader of Opposition, slammed Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on X (formerly Twitter), questioning how ordinary citizens can feel safe when even ruling party leaders are targeted.
“Law and order in Punjab has collapsed under Bhagwant Mann’s watch. The shocking daylight murder of AAP Punjab leader Lucky Oberoi outside a gurdwara in Jalandhar exposes the grim reality: if even ruling party leaders aren’t safe, what hope remains for ordinary citizens?” he wrote.
“Punjab today is gripped by fear, gang violence, and administrative paralysis, while the AAP government remains busy with PR and excuses. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann must answer: who is responsible for this complete breakdown?” he questioned.

This sentiment was echoed by BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, who labelled the state’s law and order a “complete collapse.”
“Once again, law and order in complete collapse in Punjab. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead outside a gurudwara in Jalandhar’s Model Town. AAP is a Paap for Punjab,” Poonawalla wrote on X.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia accused the administration of making broad-daylight killings a “new norm” in Punjab.
“In another broad day murder… AAP Punjab leader Lucky Oberoi has been shot dead in Model Town Jalandhar by two assailants who have fired 8 to 10 bullets on him. This has become a new norm in Punjab. Kill anyone anywhere as per whims and fancies…” he wrote.
