POLL OF THE DAY: Should Labour concentrate on the Channel migrant crisis rather than Ukraine?
Around 1,900 migrants have crossed the channel since last Saturday, smashing all previous records for the number of arrivals since 2016.
It comes after the sad news that one person died while attempting to cross to the UK by small boat.
It comes after the UK has sent first third of its £2.26 billion loan to Ukraine for the country to spend on military equipment in its hour of need.
Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said: “Now more than ever in this changed world, Ukraine needs our support as a reliable partner to secure peace following Russia’s unprovoked invasion.”
However, President Donald Trump on Monday directed a “pause” to US assistance to Ukraine as he seeks to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to engage in negotiations to end the war with Russia.
Downing Street said Zelensky had provided a “good basis” for discussions in Saudi Arabia next week after he set out some possible elements for the first stage of a peace deal and his readiness to move quickly.
With that in mind, do you think the government should focus more on the migrant crisis than Ukraine? Have your say in the poll below.
