Parents fume over ‘trigger warning’ on children’s production of Three Little Pigs – ‘Big Bad Woke!’

Trigger warnings have been slapped on a children’s production of the Three Little Pigs, with parents fuming the move as “big bad woke”.

An advert for the Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of the classic tale warned that it “has a passing reference to Father Pig being gobbled by the Big Bad Wolf”.

Parents buying tickets for their three to seven-year-olds have condemned the “patronising” message.

Tim Scott, of The Freedom Association, told The Sun: “This nonsense is all too typical of taking life far too seriously.”

He said that the story is already very well-known so should be left alone.

Father of two Vaz Sayed, 52, slammed the warning – which was listed in the ‘content and themes’ section of the theatre company’s website – as “laughable” and “patronising”.

He added: “It’s less Big Bad Wolf and more Big Bad Woke!”

Sir Ian McKellen has previously slammed “ludicrous” trigger warnings in productions, stating that he “prefers to be surprised” when watching a show.

Earlier this month, a university faced backlash after it added content alerts to William Shakespeare’s works, including for “extreme weather” and “popping balloons”.

A total of 220 warnings were added to his works, as well as famous adaptations from the BBC, ITV, and theatrical versions.

The University of the West of England (UWE) told drama students that TV adaptations of Macbeth referenced “war” and “psychological distress”, and whilst watching The Tempest, viewers should be aware that there is “extreme weather” and “the depiction of magic”.
