European destination famous for its ‘stunning spas’ named as one of top 10 places to visit in 2025

Hungary has been named as one of the top 10 “destinations to watch” for UK holidaymakers, offering stunning attractions at prices that “won’t break the bank”.

The travel trade organisation Abta highlighted the central European country’s “beautiful countryside” alongside its “delicious food and wine” as key attractions for British tourists.

The announcement comes as the travel industry prepares for “Sunshine Saturday” – traditionally one of the busiest days of the year for holiday bookings, falling on the first Saturday in January.

Nearly half of UK holidaymakers are looking to try somewhere new this year, according to Abta.

PLANE IN SKY

Budapest, described by Abta as “one of the world’s greatest cities,” boasts remarkable architectural heritage along the River Danube.

A highlight includes a “stunning art nouveau building” situated at one end of the iconic Chain Bridge.

The capital city is also renowned for its “truly stunning” spas and bath houses, offering visitors a chance to experience traditional Hungarian wellness culture.

These historic attractions are a magnet for British tourists seeking both cultural experiences and relaxation.

Beyond the capital, Hungary offers diverse experiences for adventurous travellers.

Visitors can explore hiking trails through forests near Lake Baloton, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.

The region around the city of Tokaj presents opportunities for wine enthusiasts to visit local wineries and sample Hungarian vintages.

Abta director of communications Graeme Buck said: “We have deliberately not chosen the most popular or fastest growing destinations, but instead aimed to inspire with some fantastic places, which may not currently be top of mind.”

HUNGARY

The country joins other notable destinations on Abta’s list, including Japan’s Hokkaido island, Italy’s Le Marche region, and Spain’s Oviedo.

It comes as another travel expert has argued Japan should be on everyone’s travel bucket list.

Amanda Schneider (who goes by @elegant.escapes.official on TikTok) took to the platform to share her top recommendations for travel this year.

“The biggest trend of 2025 is travelling to places and immersing yourself within those cultures – and Japan is one of the most amazing places to be able to do so,” Amanda recently shared in a clip.
