BBC Death in Paradise teases return of ‘old face’ – days after ‘gutted’ fans slam exit of beloved character
Death in Paradise fans were recently left “gutted” by the exit of Tahj Miles, who played Officer Marlon Pryce in the long-running series.
However, the programme has now teased the comeback of a different character in a written preview for the upcoming episode, which is scheduled to air over the weekend.
Last week, Pryce said goodbye to the force and the island of Saint Marie so he could head to Jamaica to look after his sister.
While fans took to social media in their droves to complain about the exit, their disappointment might be eased with the return of an “old face,” who has not been named.
While little was given away as to who this could be, the synopsis for this week’s episode reads: “An old face returns St Marie, but isn’t met with open arms from everyone.”
With Pryce’s exit leaving scope for a new officer, it could be that a former employee will be back for their old job.
Viewers are already keen to find out who the mystery returnee could be, and many have taken to social media to share their predictions.
Posting on X, formerly Twitter, one fan wrote in the wake of Pryce’s exit: “The only thing that will console me for Marlon’s departure is the return of one or all of the following: Ruby, JP, Camille, Florence #DeathInParadise.”
“What an episode! Gutted Marlon has left @TahjDMiles is a VERY talented actor and I hope his next adventure is just as successful as this one. Looking forward to seeing who will be taking his slot though, could Dwayne or Florence return?? #deathinparadise,” another theorised.
“Now Neville’s ex has shown up – is she going to convince him to return to Blighty? Is Dwayne coming back? So many???” another commented.
“Omg that episode of #DeathInParadise was incredible!! A return for JP, an exit for Marlon and who is the mystery new officer?!” another asked.
“I hope it’s the return of Dwayne or Fidel. That would be great. #deathinparadise,” someone else penned while a different viewer added: “Probably someone we’ve seen before. Dwayne return most likely.”
“My guess is Dwayne is coming back,” another echoed. (sic)
Dwayne Myers (played by Daniel John-Jules) made his debut when the series first launched in 2011 and left in 2018.

The character left to go on an “epic voyage” with his estranged father and hasn’t been back on the Caribbean island since.
Last month, fans were also left disappointed by the “killing off” of an “iconic” guest to the show. Legendary actress Hayley Mills appeared in the drama in February.
However, she was soon discovered dead after being stabbed with a knitting needle, leaving the Saint Marie residents stunned and the detectives having to get to work to find out who the killer was.
Viewers quickly slammed the plot over Mills’ character’s death, having expected a longer stint by the 77-year-old.
