Amazon hit by furious backlash after selling book written by Hamas leader: ‘Incitement of violence!’

Amazon has been hit with a wave of fury after listing a book written by Hamas boss Yahya Al-Sinwar.

Al-Sinwar, who is heading up Hamas’ regime in the Gaza Strip, penned The Thorn and The Carnation in 2023.

A paperback version is being listed on Amazon for £19.81, with a hardback copy going for £23.77.

The 212-page book explores “incarceration in Israeli prisons” and supposedly “emerges as a vital piece of literature for those seeking to comprehend the ongoing tensions in the Middle East”.

Amazon users left a mixed set of reviews about Al-Sinwar’s book.

One said: “This book is incitement to violence and antisemitism.

“It is written by the leader of Hamas and should not be sold by Amazon.”

However, another wrote: “Its opening page brings you deep inside the realness of living under thorns and the beauty of warmth of these people unfolds on each page.

“I hope to read more and I demand a Free Palestine.”

An extract from the book discussed how children in Palestine played a game called “Arabs and Jews”.

Al-Sinwar wrote: “As children, this even affected our games; the game of ‘Arabs and Jews’ became a daily activity, with a prevailing rule that the Arabs would always triumph over their enemies.”

Responding to the Amazon listing, a spokesperson for the Campaign Against Antisemitism said: “Here is a book that a genocidal antisemite wrote in prison before overseeing the slaughter of innocent Jews.

“But it isn’t Mein Kampf. In fact, whereas with Mein Kampf, we at least know that the proceeds do not go to its author, it is not clear whether the same can be said for this so-called novel by the Hamas mastermind Yahya Al-Sinwar.

“Amazon must either remove this book or urgently explain where the royalties are going.”

GB News has approached Amazon for comment.
