A 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed near Bedford bus station in a shocking attack yesterday evening – just 24 hours after another teenager was knifed to death in London.

Thomas Taylor, a student at Bedford Academy, was walking along Greenhill Street when he was attacked by a group of males at around 5.50pm on Wednesday.

He suffered serious injuries in the assault and was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the incident, which occurred in Bedford’s busy town centre.

Police are searching for multiple attackers who fled the scene towards Hassett Street and Greyfriars car park.

The suspects were described as black males wearing dark clothing.

Detective Chief Inspector Katie Dounias, who is leading the investigation, called it “an absolutely shocking incident in which a teenage boy has been stabbed to death in a busy town centre.”

She confirmed a dedicated team of detectives is working on the case and supporting Thomas’s family.

“I would urge anyone who saw what happened or has any information to come forward and speak to police and help us bring those responsible to justice,” DCI Dounias said.

It comes just one day after 14-year-old, Kelyan Bokassa was stabbed to death on a double-decker bus on Church Street in Woolwich, southeast London, on Tuesday.

Police, paramedics and the London Air Ambulance descended on the scene just after 2.30pm after a police officer on patrol raised the alarm.

Though medics tried to treat the 14-year-old’s injuries, he died soon afterwards.

Police said they were working “at pace” to find his killers – but no arrests have yet been made.

Speaking to the BBC, his mother Mary Bokassa said he was “kind”, loved music, was talented at drawing, and cared about the people around him.

Mary also said her son had been “exposed to drugs” before his death.

She added that Kelyan had been “taken advantage of” by local gangs – and his exposure to drugs left him feeling “not himself”.
