Trump orders all federal employees to remove pronouns from email signatures in latest DEI attack
Donald Trump has ordered all federal employees to remove their pronouns from their email signatures in his latest attack on DEI policies.
Employees were sent memos instructing them to remove their pronouns by the end of the week.
The memos cited executive orders signed by Trump as the reason for the new policy.
One message from the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) Chief Information Officer Jason Bonander read: “Pronouns and any other information not permitted in the policy must be removed from CDC/ATSDR employee signatures by 5pm ET on Friday.”
Speaking to ABC News, one CDC employee said they were shocked at the new restriction.
“In my decade-plus years at CDC I’ve never been told what I can and can’t put in my email signature,” the member of staff said.
The use of pronouns in professional correspondence has grown in recent years due to many companies adopting DEI initiatives, including the commitment to inclusion of transgender employees.

During Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, employees were given nine different genders to choose from on employment applications, showcasing the Democratic Party’s commitment to inclusivity.
Meanwhile, Republicans have made a concerted effort to ditch the pronouns in work settings.
Since taking office, Trump has already begun rooting out “gender includive” practices, with his executive orders forcing Washington agencies to remove DEI language from all communications and publications.
He also ordered all DEI, DEIA and environmental justice offices and positions to be terminated within 60 days from the start of his presidency.
Trump’s move looks to reverse the efforts made by the Biden administration to advance “racial equity” throughout the federal government.
Trump’s order read: “The Biden Administration forced illegal and immoral discrimination programs, going by the name ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ (DEI), into virtually all aspects of the Federal Government, in areas ranging from airline safety to the military.”
He branded the policies as “shameful discrimination”, adding: “Americans deserve a government committed to serving every person with equal dignity and respect.”
The development comes as Trump recently blamed the plane crash in Washington, DC on DEI policies put in place by Biden’s government.
He said: “The era of DEI is gone at the Defense Department and we need the best and brightest, whether it’s in our air traffic control or whether it’s in our generals or whether it’s throughout government.”
