Sara Sharif’s dad ‘sliced in neck’ with jagged tuna tin lid after being ambushed by Belmarsh inmates
Sara Sharif’s father has had his throat “sliced” with a jagged tuna tin lid by a pair of inmates at London’s notorious prison HMP Belmarsh.
Urfan Sharif, 43, was branded an “executioner” late last month when he was jailed for the horrific murder of the 10-year-old girl after years of abuse.
Sharif, who was handed a life sentence behind bars for a minimum of 40 years, was reportedly attacked by two fellow inmates on New Year’s Day for murdering his daughter, according to The Sun.
Insiders told the newspaper that the pair were outraged by his abuse of Sara – and the 43-year-old was fortunate to survive the attack.
One source reportedly said: “Urfan was sliced up badly in his cell by two others who rushed in. It was planned and they used a makeshift weapon – made from the lid of a tin of tuna.
“He was sliced in the neck and face, and is still in healthcare and in a very bad way.
“He was lucky to survive, has had to have stitches and will have scars as a permanent reminder of the attack.
“The guards tried to keep him safe because he obviously had a target on his back after the case was such big news.
“Something like this was always on the cards, and an attack was probably only a matter of time.”
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers were investigating “an allegation that a prisoner was assaulted at Belmarsh”.
He added: “The 43-year-old suffered non life-threatening injuries.”
