‘Make me the British ambassador to US,’ says Nigel Farage in bid to buddy up with frontrunner Donald Trump

Nigel Farage has offered to work alongside a Labour Government and strengthen a potential relationship between Donald Trump and Keir Starmer.

The GB News presenter said he would be “ideal” for the role of Britain’s ambassador to US if both Labour and the Republicans win power this year.

According to Farage, the UK Ambassador to Washington needs to be a person who could “talk face to face” with the President.

He added that previous “unfortunate” comments made by the Labour leader and Foreign Secretary David Lammy could make relations “difficult”.

“Labour must think very, very hard in the national interest about what they are going to do with an incoming Trump administration,” Farage told The Sun.

And right at the moment, I think they are ignoring it.

“You’ve got to have someone who can actually walk into the Oval Office and talk face to face with an incoming President Trump.

“So, half jokingly I could say me, but I can’t see them ever appointing me.

“But, I would be ideal for it. I would be, I am being serious, I would be. But they need to think very hard.”

Discussing the debate surrounding European defence and Nato, the former Ukip leader said it is “crucial” that the incoming Labour Government choose an appropriate person.

He added: “My big fear is that some very senior Labour figures have been so hostile towards Trump and that is going to make relations very, very difficult.

“It is crucial, particularly given the huge debate that is going on around European defence and Nato, it is crucial that an incoming Labour Government must have the right person in Washington.

“Lammy has made some really unfortunate comments about Trump, and they may not like the guy.

“But if we really think our future defence and security is going to be served by the European Union and not America, frankly we need our heads tested.”

The latest polls indicate that the Labour and Republican parties will win the upcoming elections.
