GB News eclipses Sky and BBC’s viewing figures during Tory leadership event

Viewers tuned in to GB News in droves last night to watch Decision Time: The Race to Lead, chaired by political editor Christopher Hope.

The two-hour event drew an average audience of well over 100,000 people, with a peak audience of 152,600 viewers. This comfortably eclipsed Sky’s 80,600 and the BBC’s 70,400.

GB News has been leading the way with coverage of the Tory leadership content, with The Race to Lead featuring in every major paper this morning. The Express, Guardian and i paper all carried page leads on the event.

It saw the final two leadership hopefuls set out their pitches to a live audience of Tory members, before questions from the masterful Chopper and the audience. Afterwards, the audience deemed Badenoch to be the winner by show of hands.

Here’s how the media covered it.

The Telegraph’s Tim Stanley backed Badenoch as the winner, stating: “Kemi’s the one. The GB News debate brought clarity to the Tory leadership election: she has charisma, the members love her and, surprisingly, she might unite the party.”

The Times’ Tom Peck appeared to be of the same opinion, writing: “It’s remarkable to type out the words that Kemi Badenoch seemed like the more moderate, more reasonable candidate, but she did. She actually voted for Brexit, but she doesn’t want to use the ECHR to repackage the Brexit forever war.”

Kitty Donaldson, the i political editor, declared “Badenoch had the edge over Jenrick” while the Express’ Katie Harris wrote similar.

The next Tory leader will be announced on Saturday the 2nd of November.
