‘We know what’s coming!’ Britons praised for REJECTING cashless society as ATM withdrawals rise for third year

GB News presenter Bev Turner has praised the rising use of cash machines across Britain, claiming the public is actively resisting moves towards a cashless society.

Speaking on GB News, Bev highlighted what she called “an excellent good news story” about increasing cash usage for the third consecutive year.

New data from Nationwide, Britain’s biggest building society, shows nearly 33 million withdrawals were made from its ATMs in 2024.

This represents a 4.6 per cent increase compared to 2023 and a significant 29 per cent rise from 2021’s figure of 25.4 million.

Nationwide reported that cash usage is “thriving” across the country, with notable increases in both Chiswick, west London, and Shotton in Flintshire, Wales.

Reacting to the new data, Bev exclaimed: “The British public know what’s coming, and they’re frightened of living in a cashless society. And so everybody’s using more cash.

“And apparently the area in the country that’s had the biggest increase in cash use is Chiswick in west London, where I live.”

Bev suggested that the trend represents more than just financial management, describing it as “a political statement” against constant surveillance.

Turner highlighted how people are adopting traditional money management methods to keep on top of their finances, following Labour’s Budget.

Bev explained: “People are finding it hard to afford everything, putting cash in envelopes and going, right, that’s my electricity.

“That’s how my mum did it, in a little brown envelope that dad would give her.”

The GB News host also hit out at restaurant chain Nando’s, following their recent decision to operate as a cashless business in Australia.

Bev stated: “One famous chicken shop, Nando’s, has just announced it’s going cashless now.

“And they have a sign in the shop that says, ‘oh, I suppose this means we’re part of the New World Order does it?’

“Well, yeah, and it’s a new world that none of us particularly want to live in.”

The trend marks a significant shift from pandemic habits, when cash usage dropped by 35% in 2020 as many businesses became card-only.
