US illegal migrant arrested for four counts of sex crimes during medical treatment

A US illegal migrant has been arrested for four counts of sex crimes carried out under the guise of administering medical assistance.

Jose Luis Gomez Espinol, 34, was arrested and charged by Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office on multiple counts of sexual contact or penetration under the pretext of medical treatment.

He is accused of crimes in connection to incidents on April 16, 2024, January 31, 2024, and September 28, 2023.

Two victims were involved, according to the warrant.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office website says he is being held under four $500,000 bonds.

Last month, experts warned that the backlog of asylum seekers and other migrants in the US will hit eight million by the end of September.

The figure is up 167 per cent compared to five years ago, statistics obtained by Axios have shown.

It would also mark a drastic increase from the 6.2 million, 4.8 million and 3.7 million witnessed in the previous years of Joe Biden’s administration.

Immigration, which helped propel Trump to the White House in 2016, is also becoming an increasingly important issue for US voters.

A Gallup poll found that 28 per cent of Americans now believe immigration is the biggest problem facing America.

The figure is higher than those citing either the economy or inflation.

It also constitutes a record high since Gallup began polling voters on their views about immigration in 1981.

Last month, a group of migrants managed to break through a section of a border checkpoint in Texas.

Local media reports that the group had been detained on the US side of the Rio Grande before being pushed south of the concertina wire in the middle of the night by troops.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, said the state’s National Guard and Department of Public Safety (DPS) is “instructed to arrest every illegal immigrant involved for criminal trespass and destruction of property.”

Abbott, a Republican who earlier this month ruled himself out of a candidate for Trump’s running mate, added that he has taken a range of actions to discourage crossings, saying President Joe Biden has not adequately secured the border.

About 139,000 migrants have been apprehended in the area around El Paso since October 1 last year according to internal statistics, making it one of the busier stretches of the border.
