‘They were saying we’ll kill you!’ Family shares ‘terrifying’ moment they were surrounded by migrants after finding one in car boot

A family has opened up about a “terrifying” ordeal after discovering a migrant hiding in their car boot at a service station in Calais, France.

Khadija Hussain-Chowdhury, 20, and her family were making their journey home to the UK when she began to hear sounds from the boot of the car.

She watched in disbelief as the boot appeared to close on its own while her husband was paying for petrol at the service station.

Concerned by the strange sounds, she immediately alerted her father about the noises coming from the boot.

Upon investigation, they discovered a man had concealed himself under a jacket in the vehicle back of the car.

The hidden man quickly jumped out and fled the scene when confronted by the family shouting that he was “sorry.”

Khadija’s husband, Ahmad Chowdhury said: “I open up the boot and as soon as I’ve opened this boot up, I’ve seen him laying in there almost. You can’t see him. He’s got he’s covered himself with his jacket.”

“He’s come out and he’s like, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Ahmad continued. “And all of a sudden I’ve looked around me as at least 30 to 40 other immigrants surrounded us.”

The situation quickly became threatening, with Ahmad attempting to alert authorities.

“I told them to go away and I said that I’m going to call the police. I’ve tried to call the police. They’re threatening us.”

Khadija described the frightening moments that followed, saying: “They’re all literally threatening, and they’re caving in, and getting closer and closer.

“They literally said, call the police. They don’t care. We’ll kill you. It’s fine. They will kill you like they know they’ll get away with anything.”

“I called the police, the police literally said word for word ‘there goes, we can’t do anything. What do you want us to do? We can’t arrest them.'”

“I said ‘I don’t care if you arrest them or not, get us out of here safe that’s what I care about.'”

The family’s ordeal reached a dramatic climax as they attempted to escape the dangerous situation.

A group of men emerged from nearby bushes and began pursuing their vehicle.

Ahmad, fearing for the lives of his wife and father-in-law, was forced to use a steering wheel lock as protection.

As they tried to drive away, the attackers began throwing bricks at their car. The family managed to flee the scene and make their way back to England despite the assault.

Months after the incident, Khadija says they are still waiting for answers, stating: “It’s been months, and we’ve literally still heard nothing about it.”
