The UK areas where people are most likely to move house in 2025 – what to consider before moving
Bournemouth has emerged as the UK’s most eager area for a house move in 2025, with residents making 38,132 monthly searches for moving-related topics per 100,000 people, according to new research.
The study revealed Plymouth and Birmingham as the second and third most keen areas for relocation, with 35,198 and 35,181 searches per 100,000 residents respectively.
The findings by moving platform Getamover.co.uk were based on Google search data across the past year, examining searches for property websites and moving-related terms.
The research analysed Google search data from 78 areas across the UK, examining 331 different search terms related to moving house.
The study tracked searches for major property websites like Rightmove and Zoopla, combined with terms such as “houses for sale”.
Additional search terms included practical tools like “mortgage calculator” and “stamp duty calculator”.
Bournemouth residents searched for Rightmove 56,458 times per month on average, making it the most searched property site in the UK.
In second place, Plymouth’s residents showed strong interest in Zoopla, with 13,808 monthly searches for the property website.
Birmingham’s third-place position was marked by significant interest in financial planning, with “mortgage calculator” being searched 13,542 times monthly, ranking as the fourth most popular search term nationally.
These figures highlight the varying priorities across the top three areas, from property browsing to financial preparation for home moves. Bristol secured fourth place with 32,889 monthly searches per 100,000 residents for moving-related topics.
Newcastle upon Tyne ranked fifth with 32,206 searches, whilst Leeds took sixth position with 31,800 searches per 100,000 residents.
Manchester completed the top 10, with residents making 30,009 monthly searches per 100,000 people for moving-related topics.
Head of Getamover.co.uk David Burrows shared advice for those looking to move. He said: “It’s fascinating to see which areas searched most for terms related to moving house as it shows which areas may be gathering information the most before entering the property market.
“However, it’s important to remember that moving house isn’t just looking for properties, sorting the finances, and signing on the dotted line.
“Once these have been finalised, then comes the task of actually moving. This can be a big logistical undertaking, with lots of little things you might not think of before they happen.
