Steve Bannon reveals what shocked him most about Kamala Harris as he speaks out after jail release
Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist, has spoken out about Vice President Kamala Harris following his recent release from jail.
In an interview with GBN America, Bannon expressed his shock at what he perceives as Harris’s lack of preparedness and knowledge on key issues.
“She surprised me by how unprepared she is,” Bannon stated, citing a recent interview with Bret Baier as an example.
Bannon’s comments come as Harris delivered a speech calling for a “new generation of leadership” at the site of Trump’s address before the January 6 Capitol Hill attack.
The Vice President’s remarks saw Trump mentioned 24 times and Biden only once and focused on the choice between “freedom for every American” and a country “ruled by chaos and division”.
Bannon specifically criticised Harris’s response to a question about America’s greatest geopolitical threat. He recounted:
“Who’s the greatest geopolitical threat to the United States? Who’s America’s biggest competitor or potential adversary on the world stage? And she immediately said, Iran.”

Bannon expressed disbelief at this answer, stating: “Anybody that wants to be commander in chief, that would sit in front of the American people and say that our number one threat, the number one geopolitical adversary competitive we have is Iran doesn’t understand the basics.”
He further added that this response was particularly concerning given Harris’s role as Vice President for four years, describing it as “a flat learning curve”.
Bannon went on to criticise Harris’s ability to articulate coherent policy positions. He remarked:
“I think what shocked me the most is how little she knows and how she really can’t walk through a coherent set of policy prescriptions that would kind of make the point that she wants to make.”
This perceived lack of clarity, according to Bannon, has impacted Harris’s polling numbers. He noted her decline from initially leading Trump by 5 or 6 points to now being in a dead heat or slightly behind in battleground states.
Bannon attributed this shift to public perception, stating: “I think it’s purely because people are sitting there and going, I don’t really understand what she stands for in a presidential, particularly when her image is not formed to the American, although she’s vice president.”
Bannon compared Harris’s campaign strategy unfavourably to Trump’s focused approach in 2016. He advised: “You’ve got to take one or two issues and you have to drive this very much.
“President Trump in 16 with MAGA Make America Great Again or the border wall, or bring jobs back from trying to pick one or two things at the most, maybe three, but drive those home in every speech, wash, rinse, repeat.”
Bannon suggested that Harris’s failure to adopt a similar strategy has led to a recent shift in her messaging.
He observed: “And you haven’t gotten this. And I think that’s why you had this pivot, kind of a hard pivot to fascism over the last week.”
This comment appears to reference Harris’s recent speech, where she likened Trump to a “petty tyrant”.
