Spain snatch dramatic win over Portugal to advance to finals

Spain snatched a dramatic 1-0 win over Portugal in Braga on Tuesday to advance to the Nations League finals. Alvaro Morata scored the winning goal in the 88th minute to send Spain through to the final four, which will be held in June 2023.

A tight first half

The first half of the match was a tight affair, with neither team able to create many clear-cut chances. Portugal had the better of the possession, but Spain were dangerous on the counter-attack.

Cristiano Ronaldo had the best chance of the first half in the 35th minute when he headed wide from close range. Spain had a chance of their own just before the half-hour mark when Pablo Sarabia’s shot was saved by Diogo Costa.

Spain take charge in the second half

Spain came out more attacking in the second half, and they took the lead in the 88th minute through Morata. Morata headed in from close range after Nico Williams had nodded the ball down to him.

Portugal tried to find a way back into the game, but they were unable to break down the Spanish defense. Spain held on for a 1-0 victory to advance to the Nations League finals.

A deserved victory for Spain

The victory was a deserved one for Spain, who were the better team in the second half. They created more chances and they looked more dangerous going forward.

Alvaro Morata was the match-winner for Spain, but he was well supported by his teammates. Unai Simon made a number of fine saves in goal, and Nico Williams was a constant threat on the right flank.

Portugal disappointed to miss out

Portugal, on the other hand, will be disappointed to have missed out on the Nations League finals. They were the defending champions, and they were expected to be one of the favorites to win the tournament again this year. However, they were unable to find the back of the net against a well-organized Spanish defense.

What next for Spain and Portugal?

Spain will now join Italy, Croatia, and the Netherlands in the Nations League finals. The tournament will be held in June 2023, and it will be a good opportunity for Spain to test themselves against some of the best teams in Europe.

Portugal will be hoping to bounce back from their disappointment and qualify for the next European Championship. They have a number of talented players in their squad, and they will be confident of making their mark on the international stage in the coming years.
