‘Save women’s sports!’ Teens lead trans revolt as California high school launches protest clampdown
Students at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, California, have gone viral on the internet amidst a lawsuit over two female cross country athletes being told they cannot wear shirts reading “Save Women’s Sports”.
The teens say school administrators compared the t-shirt to swastikas.
This comes as a biological male who identifies as trans was allowed to play on the school team, taking a varsity spot from a female player.
Student Rylee Morrow brought even more public attention to the situation when she gave a speech at a school board meeting last month expressing her fears at having to share a locker room with a biological male.
She said: “Going into a locker room and seeing males in there – I dont find that safe. I dont find going to the bathroom safe when there’s guys in there. It’s not ok. I’m a 16 year old girl.We do not feel safe having boys in our environment. It isn’t ok to have them on our team.”
“It feels like my school is choosing to support one person instead of the whole team.”
In an interview with Fox News, Morrow hit out at her school for comparing the shirts to swastikas, saying it was disappointing to see staff at school comparing t-shirts to a symbol of genocide.
“To compare such a very broad term to such a horrible time in history is quite disappointing,” she said.
She also said having a biological male on the team brings with it genetic advantages.
A viral TikTok this past week escalated the situation after students appeared in a video saying the school implemented a new dress code to stop students from wearing the shirts.
The caption of the video read: “When our school won’t let a girl wear this shirt who lost her varsity spot for a biological male so everyone wears them and they try to not let us into school, dress code us and keep us out of class for voicing our opinion and supporting a friend. Crazy how the world works.”
Prominent activists against the inclusion of biological males in female sports took to social media to support the teens.
Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer who rose to fame after speaking out for having to compete against trans athlete Lia Thomas, tweeted the TikTok.
She said: “Heartbreaking. MLK HS compared a shirt two girls wore that said “Save Girls Sports” to wearing a swastika. 150+ students wore the same shirt to school to support the girls. The school punished the students by issuing dress code violations & barring them from attending class”
California Family Council outreach director Sophia Lorey revealed that over 150 students donned the shirt and said students who did not comply with the new dress code were forced to spend hours in the principal’s office.
Lorey told Fox News: “I’m deeply disappointed in the school administration for trampling on their First Amendment rights, issuing dress code violations and comparing ‘XX does not equal XY’ to wearing a swastika, simply because the students are standing up for biological reality, is disgusting.”
“Schools should protect free speech, not punish students for defending what is right. I am looking forward to hopefully more students joining the lawsuit, and truth prevailing.”
California has been in the spotlight recently for their controversial laws protecting biological male athletes that want to compete against females.
