Nuclear test veteran thanks GB News viewers for raising £50,000 for annual reunion: ‘I burst into tears’

A nuclear test veteran has expressed his profound gratitude after GB News viewers raised over £50,000 for an annual veterans’ reunion.

Brian Unthank said: “I was absolutely gobsmacked on the wonderful contributions that the viewers have paid. And when I found out how much it actually was, I just could not believe how lucky we were to receive all that, especially in these hard times that we’re facing at the moment.”

The emotional veteran added that he “almost burst out crying” at the “wondrous amount” contributed.

Mr Unthank was exposed to radiation during British nuclear tests and has since suffered 93 instances of skin cancer.

The annual reunion, held this week at Pontins in Weston-super-Mare, brings together veterans who were exposed to radiation during British nuclear tests, along with their families.

Many of these veterans and their families have developed cancer and heart problems, with some experiencing the loss of babies.

The week-long gathering at Sand Bay aims to combat loneliness and boost veterans’ mental health by allowing them to meet former colleagues.
