Nike and FA insist will NOT recall controversial Euro 2024 kit after ‘woke’ St George’s Cross
Nike and the FA have no plans to recall England’s controversial Euro 2024 football kits after “woke” alterations were made to the flag of St George.
Fans and commentators vented their fury at the change but the American manufacturer described the colour switch as a “playful update”.
The change saw the traditional red cross replaced by navy, light blue and purple.
Some commentators labelled the Three Lions’ new strip as “woke” and demanded the flag revert to the original colours.
Nike reiterated it has no plans to change the cross.
A spokesperson said: “The England 2024 Home kit disrupts history with a modern take on a classic.
“The trim on the cuffs takes its cues from the training gear worn by England’s 1966 heroes, with a gradient of blues and reds topped with purple.
“The same colours also feature an interpretation of the flag of St George on the back of the collar.”
The new shirt reportedly has the full backing of the FA.
St George’s Park was also said to have signed off the kit’s rejig.
The FA will not disclose which department actioned the change.
However, the kit was agreed on and entered into production two years ago.
MPs were among those frustrated by Nike’s redesign.
