‘Mindless thugs’ carve Swastika into golf course as police struggle to catch culprits: ‘We need the community’s help!’
The general manager of a historic Surrey golf club has spoken out about persistent vandalism that has escalated to the carving of a Nazi symbol on one of its greens.
Mark Rothbath told GB News that Thames Ditton and Esher Golf Club has endured ten months of damage from motorcyclists, with incidents intensifying during the winter period.
General manager Mark Rothbath told GB News: “This has been going on for us for about ten months or so now, but has got a lot worse over the winter time.
“Obviously, the fact that it’s winter, the marks are deeper because the ground is wetter, the grass doesn’t prepare us quicker. The marks stay for longer.
“And this has obviously culminated with last weekend in the symbol that you mentioned being carved into one of the greens.
“Generally speaking, it’s just been mindless. There have been symbols on the greens, but nothing that we have discerned as a symbol that we would see.
“There have been patterns put onto the greens, but nothing as shocking as the Nazi symbol.

- Britons seethe as vandals DUMP hordes of ‘filth’ outside their homes and council ‘does nothing’
- Detectives accused of acting like Orwellian ‘Thought Police’ as they doorstep gran for slamming Labour councillors on Facebook
“We can’t see any reason for the Nazis to go on to the Greens.
“The golf course is on common land, so it’s used by dog walkers, there are plenty of people around other than just golfers using the common.
“There seems to be no reason at all for that symbol to be open to the greens
“This is the seventh time we’ve we’ve put in a report since November.
“There isn’t a huge amount they can do, they can’t really go and chase them. They are quite difficult to catch. They look like little dirt bikes.
“We have got a couple of videos, but they’ve always got helmets on, they’ve always got balaclavas on, the bikes are undistinguishable, they’re black bikes and they just struggle.
“They can get to places where other people can’t chase them.
“So it’s going to be a difficult thing to, to catch these, these people which is why we’re obviously asking for the community’s help.”
The club has reached out to local MP Monica Harding for urgent assistance.
Both the Police and Elmbridge Borough Council have been unable to provide resources to help identify those responsible.
The impact extends beyond the golf community, as the green space serves multiple purposes.
