Meghan Markle’s return to Suits given green light ‘under any circumstances’ in new update

Suits creator Aaron Korsh has confirmed that Meghan Markle has a standing invitation to return to the franchise.

Speaking at the premiere of Suits LA in California on Thursday, Korsh addressed speculation about a potential return of the Duchess of Sussex.

“Obviously, if Meghan wants to come back under any circumstances, Meghan can come back,” Korsh told People exclusively.

The new spinoff series, set to debut on February 23, follows the success of the original legal drama’s recent Netflix resurgence.

However, Korsh expressed concerns about how such a return might impact the show’s reality.

“We have thought about whether it be Meghan or any of the other cast members coming on and playing themselves as an actor,” he explained.

The 58-year-old creator admitted the concept was challenging. “My brain blows up at the thought of that.”

“I think it blows up the world too much,” he added. “It would be too much of an explosion of the fourth wall to do that.”

Meghan Markle played paralegal Rachel Zane in the original series, appearing in 108 episodes across seven seasons.

Her role in Suits marked her breakout performance, with the now 43-year-old starring in the drama from its first season.

Her character’s exit was written into the season 7 finale, which aired in April 2018.

Rachel’s departure storyline saw her moving to Seattle after marrying her onscreen boyfriend Mike Ross, portrayed by Patrick J. Adams.

Korsh revealed to the BBC in 2017 that writing Meghan’s exit was a calculated risk.

“I knew from a year ago that this relationship was burgeoning,” he told the BBC at the time.

“I had a decision to make because I didn’t want to intrude and ask her, ‘Hey what’s going on and what are you going to do?'”

“So collectively with the writers, we decided to take a gamble that these two people were in love and it was going to work out,” he said, referring to Meghan’s relationship with Prince Harry, which began in July 2016.

Meghan herself addressed her departure from Suits during her first joint interview with Prince Harry in November 2017.

“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she said. “It’s a new chapter, right?”

She reflected positively on her time with the show. “I’ve been working on Suits for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series.”

“I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team,” she added.
