Drivers are being warned of new vehicle recalls for some of the most popular and coveted models on the market as software issues could lead to accidents.

Data from the United States in 2024 found that 10 brands combined for more than 25 million recalls, with Elon Musk’s Tesla issuing notices for more than 5.1 million vehicles.

The Kia Sorento

The South Korean brand is recalling almost 75,000 cars over fears a loss of headlights and rear lights can reduce visibility, potentially heightening the risk of a crash.

According to documents filed with the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall impacts certain 2024-2025 Sorento, 2025 Sorento Hybrid and 2025 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid vehicles.

They state: “Due to a software logic error within the Body Domain Control Unit (BDC) under certain circumstances, momentary loss of low-beam headlamp and tail lamp illumination may occur while driving.

“As a result, the subject vehicles do not comply with the illumination requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, ‘Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment’.”

It warns that a “momentary loss” of low-beam headlamp and tail lamp illumination will cut visibility for the driver and increase the risk of a crash.

The issue will be remedied with an update to improve the loss of illumination in the Body Domain Control Unit’s software.

All new Sorento, Sorento Hybrid and Sorento Plug-in Hybrid models are equipped with the Body Domain Control Unit’s software update.

Another US-based recall impacts the Aston Martin DB12 (2024-2025), DBX707 (2025) and Vantage (2025) models, with 1,452 vehicles being recalled.

These models could suffer from an issue where the rearview camera image may be obstructed by the infotainment home screen menu when the vehicle is in reverse.

A remedy has already been given the green light with drivers able to have the head unit software updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update.

The upgraded Tesla Model 3

Tesla

Earlier this month, the Elon Musk-led brand announced that it would be recalling almost 240,000 electric vehicles amid fears rearview cameras would not display an image.

This affected certain 2024-2025 Model 3, Model S, 2023-2025 Model X, and 2023-2025 Model Y vehicles because of an issue with the computer circuit board, which could short-circuit in some instances.

Tesla was quick to address the issue by releasing an over-the-air software update. It added that any vehicles that experienced a circuit board failure could replace the affected computers, free of charge.
