Major car brand unveils groundbreaking electric vehicle that can charge 300km in just 10 minutes

Volvo has unveiled its groundbreaking new ES90 electric car, which features groundbreaking charging technology to add hundreds of kilometres of range in a matter of minutes.

The ES90 represents a significant leap forward in Volvo’s electric vehicle technology, offering faster charging and longer range than any previous electric Volvo model.

This premium electric sedan can add an impressive 300 kilometres (186 miles) of range in just 10 minutes when using 350kW fast-charging stations.

With a maximum driving range of up to 700 kilometres (434 miles) under WLTP testing conditions, the ES90 aims to eliminate range anxiety for drivers.

The car combines cutting-edge battery technology with sustainable materials and innovative tracking systems.

Volvo’s new flagship model is designed to provide “quality time with the people you love” whilst offering “peace of mind and balance”.

The Swedish brand has engineered the ES90 to ensure drivers can reach their destinations “reliably and comfortably” regardless of distance.

The 800-volt system represents a significant upgrade from the traditional 400-volt technology used in many electric vehicles.

Every component in the ES90’s electric system has been upgraded to be compatible with 800 volts, including battery cells, e-motors, inverter, charging and climate systems.

The higher-voltage system delivers more power with the same current as a 400-volt system, generating less heat during charging.

Anders Bell, Volvo’s Chief Engineering and Technology Officer, said: “Our 800V technology marks another significant technological upgrade for our customers as we move towards full electrification.

“It makes our electric cars even more efficient, helps you charge your electric Volvo faster and go farther on a single charge.”

The ES90 also features brand-new, in-house-developed battery management software that creates a more robust charging experience.

Compared to other electric Volvo cars, this new software reduces charging time from 10 to 80 per cent by as much as 30 per cent, bringing it down to just 20 minutes.

This improvement is partly thanks to adaptive charging software from Breathe Battery Technologies, which Volvo invested in last year.

The ES90 also introduces Volvo’s battery passport system based on blockchain technology, which tracks raw materials like lithium, cobalt, nickel and graphite used in the battery.

The passport highlights the CO2 footprint of the full battery pack and provides transparency about responsible sourcing practices.

Volvo has not yet released details about the price of the ES90, although a full reveal of the electric vehicle is expected on March 5.
