George, Charlotte and Louis ‘must be protected’ claims Sarah Vine: ‘Very frightening when your mother is ill’
Commentator Sarah Vine has urged for the Prince and Princess of Wales’s children to be protected, as the world continues to send support to Princess Kate after announcing her cancer diagnosis.
Last week, the Princess shared an emotional video statement in which she cleared all rumours and speculation surrounding her health, which had dominated royal news since her abdominal surgery in January.
Sharing the video on the Kensington Palace social media pages, Kate told the world she had “thought her condition was non-cancerous” at the time of the operation, despite it being successful.
However, she revealed that “tests after the operation found cancer had been present”. The Princess of Wales has begun “preventative chemotherapy” and the news came as a “huge shock” to her family.
The Princess has now asked for privacy for her and her family, including her three children – Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Discussing the Princess’s announcement on GB News, host Bev Turner admitted she was “moved” by Kate’s message and highlighted the impact the news would have on the royal children.
Bev noted that the Princess “wanted to tell her children in her own time” and suggested she “didn’t want to be pushed into it” despite the surrounding speculation.
Bev said: “She’s got them off for Easter for 2 or 3 weeks now, and she can talk to them and keep them close.”
Agreeing with Bev, commentator Sarah Vine said it was “quite lucky” that the Princess’s children are “still quite young” as they may have “found out on the internet” before hearing the news at home.

Vine explained: “It’s very important to try and manage the children, because it’s just really frightening knowing that your mother’s ill and they will be probably have a lot of questions.”
Host Andrew Pierce agreed, adding: “And also kids on the playground are cruel, and it’s better that it’s not exposed to the kids on the playground just yet.”
Vine responded: “Yes, they can be absolutely horrible. For quite a long time, my daughter genuinely believed that my husband was a lizard because somebody in the school playground had said to her ‘do you know the whole of the British government are all lizards?’
“She told me this recently, that she used to come down in the middle of the night and just check to see that we hadn’t turned into lizards.”
Kensington Palace released a statement following Princess Kate’s announcement, saying: ‘”The Prince and Princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness’ message.
“They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.”
King Charles has also publicly expressed his support for the Princess, who was hospitalised at the London Clinic in January at the same time as he was, prior to his announcement of cancer.
A spokesperson for the King said he is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did.”
