“Christians who have given up their lives to follow Jesus are encouraged during Lent to grow in their cherishing of Christ by practicing certain spiritual disciplines.

“Fasting is one of them, which involves giving something up, not as an end in itself, but a means to an end. To say no to something, but say yes to Jesus.”
