Ellen DeGeneres ‘flees’ US and purchases Cotswolds property following Donald Trump’s election win

Ellen DeGeneres is thought to have fled the United States for Britain’s Cotswolds following Donald Trump’s election victory over Kamala Harris.

The former talk show host and her partner Portia de Rossi have decided to “get the hell out” of America, sources told TMZ.

The couple are said to have become disillusioned with the political situation in the US, opting instead for a new life in the picturesque south-west of England.

DeGeneres and Rossi are thought to have purchased their Cotswolds property before the presidential election, though the exact timing remains unclear.

They are now reportedly planning to sell their California home in the exclusive neighbourhood of Montecito.

DeGeneres has quickly established herself in the well-heeled area’s celebrity social scene.

The former talk show host has been spotted at numerous exclusive Cotswolds parties since making the move across the Atlantic.

In November 2023, DeGeneres was seen joining actor Idris Elba in a DJ booth during a party at a 17th-century stately home in North Oxfordshire.

More recently, she visited Jeremy Clarkson’s Farmers Dog pub in the same area.

A video shared on Instagram by Clarkson’s girlfriend, Lisa Hogan, showed DeGeneres partying alongside Rossi and singer James Blunt.

The social appearances show the American television personality is settling well into British country life.

DeGeneres had previously endorsed Harris for the presidency in August, declaring: “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!”

She urged women to vote “like our lives depend on it,” adding: “Because they do.”

The comedian has been an outspoken critic of Trump, saying in 2017 that he was “against everything that I stand for.”

She is not alone in her exodus, as actress Eva Longoria has also announced plans to leave the US, splitting her time between Spain and Mexico.

Longoria claimed Trump’s return to the White House would make the US “a scary place”.
