DIY Expert reveals how to add £39,000 to your property’s value in just two weeks

DIY expert Robert Quinton has revealed how homeowners can boost their property value by £39,000 in just two weeks through simple home improvements.

The owner of Construction Megastore has shared his expertise on quick and effective ways to enhance homes whilst maximising their market appeal.

Robert said: “One of the easiest and cheapest ways to give your house a new look is with a fresh coat of paint,” highlighting how modest investments can yield substantial returns.

Giving your home a lick of paint can add as much as five per cent to your home’s value, approximately £15,000 for a £300,000 property.

The timeframe for such improvements is relatively short, with Robert noting that painting a couple of rooms can be completed in just a few days.

The expert said: “Generally speaking, painting a couple of rooms can be done in a couple of days, an entire home may take a week or two.

“When it comes to adding value to your property, first impressions are critical.”

The expert recommended other tasks for people to do to enhance their property’s value like painting front doors, planting flowers and installing outdoor lighting.

These enhancements can increase home values by three to five per cent, potentially adding £9,000 to £15,000.

Kitchen and bathroom updates offer the highest returns, with Robert noting these rooms are “major selling points.”

Simple improvements like new hardware and re-grouting can add five to seven per cent to property value, equivalent to £15,000 to £21,000.

Most minor updates can be completed within one or two days per room but bigger tasks can take a week or so.

Data from Zoopla revealed that despite rising mortgage rates delivering a 20 per cent hit to buying power, one million homes were sold in 2023 alone.

The most common type of homes sold were terraced houses, with 140,000 mid and end-of-terrace homes snapped up by buyers.

The average home does take 185 days to sell from when it’s first marketed though. Plus more than 35 per cent of property sales fall through in that time with 49 per cent of them being caused by buyers changing their minds.

As well as the DIY expert, a property investor recently explained one expectation will help you sell your home faster.
